H1N1 Vaccine

H1N1 is all over the place. It drives me nuts. Not that I am trying to make light of it, I know the flu can be deadly, but the uproar is just too much and the media doesn't help!

So a big topic amongst moms, who is getting their child vaccinated??

I was on the fence about it. It's a new vaccine and I am just waiting to hear some sort of recall for it because it is causing X,Y,Z.

Hailey's pedi recommended it, but doesn't have it. Great. She has received the regular flu vacc, however. I had two conditions for considering getting Hailey vaccinated:

1. It had to be administered by her pedi's office. I was NOT about to stand in line at some random clinic with hundreds of other people, who are possibly sick themselves, with Hailey in tow. No, thanks. Plus, I don't know those people administering it and much rather have it done by the nurses at the pedi's office whom I know are safe & clean.

2. It had to be thimerasol free (I admit I have no idea how this is really supposed to be spelled. I have seen so many ways, I just picked one). They make a specific vaccine that is thimerasol free for infants 6 months - 3 years old. The pedi's office has those for a very short time before they are out of it. They would be willing to give the one with thimerasol, but not without warning. For me, it was a "Hell No, I'll wait."

It just so happened when I took Hailey in for an appointment on Friday that they had the thimerasol free vaccine! So I jumped at the chance. Hailey is officially H1N1 vaccinated.

Hailey: 15 Months (Almost)

I have been posting a lot of pictures of Hailey so I decided to talk a little bit about what this adorable little munchkin has been up to.

I have just discovered her 8th tooth coming in. That's right, she barely has eight teeth! She has 4 on top and her 4th is coming in on the bottom. Her hair is filling in and also starting to get a tad darker blond. Her eyes are just as blue as ever, thanks to her mommy!


She is adding to her vocab daily it seems! Her words include:
Mama/Mommy
Dada/Daddy
Nose (Noe)
Moon (Mooooo)
Balloon (boooon)
Ball (bah)
Bath tub (Bah Ba)
Right there (rye der)
Spider (di-der)
Diaper (Die-pa)
Hi (iii)
Hello (eh-yo)

Just to name a few ;) These are sporadic too. And then of course her usual adorable gibberish. She understand so many things she can't say. She even surprises me when I ask her to do something and she complies perfectly.

She's walking like a champ. She's always on the go and wants to get into everything (already). During Halloween, she LOVED those plastic spiders that you put on the webs or the ring spiders (hence, where she learned spider). She likes to stuff as many as she can in one hand then walk around with them. She also loves the pumpkins.

She has such a sense of humor. Laughs at her self or random things she does and also loves to be chased!! Act like you are going to get her and she'll squeal and "run away" so you can chase after her.

She is so much fun these days! LOVES to be outside (of course now that its actually getting chilly) and loves to be around new people!

Hailey's new favorite is Sesame Street, especially Elmo. She goes nuts when she sees Elmo. She still loves Baby Einstein, mostly the puppets. It makes sense why she loves Sesame Street so much, since it all seems to be puppets. She much rather watch puppets then a cartoon.

So there's Hailey in a nut shell! She will still steal a piece of your heart each time you see her! ;)

Then and Now

I was browsing through some photos and came across one of the first pictures taken of Hailey when she was taken to the NICU. It's amazing how far she has come since then. And if you really look at the picture, you will notice there are no oxygen tubes anywhere. We got very lucky that her lungs were mature at 33 weeks. Even the Neonatologist was impressed on how well she was doing.

Anyway, here is the first picture taken of Hailey, followed by the most recent picture taken of Hailey. Amazing what changes in 14 months!

My Silly Girl!

I was playing with my camera again, had to share a few pics. I have tons more. I am trying to figure out how to post a slideshow of the many faces of Hailey! It's so funny!

Mommy & Me Shoot

In September, a friend from high school came down for our 10 year HS reunion (yes, I am getting that old) from Arizona. He happens to be a professional photographer and he happens to be amazing at it. I could not pass up the opportunity to have a family shoot with him. Unfortunately, Randy happened to get sick that very morning! so it ended up being a Mommy & Me shoot instead! This actually worked out perfect, being behind the camera 95% of the time, I rarely have any pictures of Hailey & myself.

Fun at the Park!

We went to the park this morning and I took the opportunity to practie with my new lens! Hailey loved playing in the sawdust. She kept scooping up handfuls and piling it on the slide!

I have been a bad blogger.

Hailey has been walking unassisted for about 2 weeks. I promise to get a good video and upload the one I have of her first unassisted steps!

October 15th: Pregnancy & Infant Loss Rememberance Day

October 15th is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day in the United States. Each year, over half a million dreams are shattered. Out of 3.3 million born alive, some 30,000 die during the first 28 days. Another 39,000 babies are still born. Miscarriage occurs in fifteen to twenty percent of pregnancies, while ectopic pregnancy occurs in one percent.

More than 25,000 children are stillborn in the United States every year leaving mothers, entire families and communities devastated. Estimates of the rate of occurrence of stillbirth make it at least as common as autism.

On October 15th, remember the thousands of unfinished children lost and the families who remain to grieve them. Honor them by taking action.

Happy Halloween & Happy Fall 2009

The manager at Sears Portrait asked me to bring in Hailey for the Fall & Halloween background demo pictures he wants to display. How could I say no? He also entered her in a cutest baby contest within the district, although she didn't win. Boo. They must have been blind! ;)
